Blocco Quad

1st Place

Problem:

Students can often be found waiting for class, crowding the hallway outside room 1400 on the first floor of Booth Building. Naturally, students rely on the walls and the floor to lean and sit against. This particular space is bare and lacks seating, causing problems both aesthetically and functionally. Conventional benches would solve seating issues, but hinder maintenance, block hallways, and are not visually attractive.

Solution:

By introducing the modular Blocco Panel System, students can enjoy the temporary comforts of a chair or desk as they anticipate their next class. The Blocco Quad encourages better social interaction throughout the hallway along with providing an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. These panels do not hinder traffic flow or maintenance, as they are easily flipped up. This minimalist system offers versatility and simplicity, which can be applied to various public spaces, such as hallways, airports and offices.
